Busy Season 2010: Generous Accountant Thinks About Others; Arranges Gathering

Because busy season is in full swing, we’ve been discussing motivation a fair amount this week. The latest pick-me-up came way of Houston from someone that decided to take matters into their own hands:

So I know everyone is busy, busy, busy, but I was given a free Happy Hour at Howl at the Moon and wanted to share it with all of you!

What: Happy Hour event

Where: Howl at the Moon (midtown)

When: February 5th, 2010

Time: 9pm – 12 am

Hope to see ya there! It should be a good way to brush off all the stress that busy season has brought!

Happy auditing,

Having never come across such generosity in our own professional experience, we tracked down this noble soul to find out the dealio. Well for starters, our hero reminded us that it’s difficult for the firms to arrange shindigs this time of year so our savior just decided to make it happen.

Plus, people haven’t been able to get together and share their Busy Season 2010 war stories and lament on the days and weeks to come. This is the perfect opportunity to get together and do just that. Also, they told us that you’re all so awesome and you deserve a break.

Gosh, this might be the feel good story of the season. Enjoy Houston!

‘Your Generosity Is Appreciated’: Open Thread

donations.jpgWe got a suggestion from a reader to solicit some discussion regarding your firms’ encouragement to donate to their preferred non-profit organization this holiday season.
This happens every year and the “browbeating” (as our reader put it) usually starts early and you are kindly reminded of your opportunity “to make a difference” quite often via emails, voicemails, face-to-face intimidation meetings and more emails.
Since the celebration of Christmaskah, Festivus, and general merriment has already gotten the kibosh in favor of the firms’ commitments to charity, one would think that TPTB at your firm would be less insistent about your personal donation to a specific charity but…we don’t know.
So kindly discuss your firm’s plans to encourage your participation this holiday season and if you plan to participate or if the freezing is contagious.

Grant Thornton Will Now Let You Tell Everyone How Great the Weather Is

We’re happy to report that the generosity at Grant Thornton continues. We found out earlier in the week that those of you that did something special, which may or may not involve an outift that wasn’t of your choosing, would be included in GT’s small bonus pool.
According to a tip we received, The Baumer and Co. has now decided that those of you that remain will be rewarded with the ability to make banal status updates at work:

During the experienceAugust all-personnel call, Ed Nusbaum announced the firm’s plans to open access to several external Web sites from Grant Thornton’s network. These sites include social networking and personal email sites such as Facebook, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, and MSN Hotmail.
I am pleased to announce that access to these sites is now open.

This unexpected show of appreciation is almost overwhelming. As a tribute, leave cliché responses to this latest development in the comments. In this particular case, the more cliché, the better.
