Senior wanting to transfer practices

I was hired as a senior for the state and local tax practice of a public accounting firm. I'm more interested in the high net worth/family office areas of tax. My questions are:
 
1. Is it too late to make a switch as a senior who is about a year and a half away from manager?
 
2. If it's not too late, what is the best way to bring up my wanting to transfer?
