“Everyone at Armanino can write their own story. They just have to be willing to write.”

It’s true. Armanino, with offices in CA, OR and IL, is that rare firm where the Managing Partner, Andy Armanino, believes great ideas don’t have to come from the top and staff should have the opportunity to explore different service areas and niches. To prove it, he initiated a Staff Advisory Board to solve real firm issues while helping to empower the staff. The board’s members are self-nominated and then elected by their peers. Members come from all practice areas and locations.

Sean Taylor, a tax senior who has been with the firm for three years, is a Board member. He recently had the opportunity to star in the firm’s hilarious video announcing that employees can wear clean and professional jeans to the office every day of the week.

“It was awesome,” he said. “I felt like a movie star.”

The video had a real message, but part of the reason it resonated so well is because it fit right in with the firm’s culture. Its sense of fun echoes the firm’s focus on its people. “It’s all part of the whole person. We’re all whole people, with personal and professional lives that have to mesh together in a fulfilling way.”

That belief is at the core of the firm’s central philosophy. The powers that be at Armanino look for what people do well and they help to nurture those skills and talents. “Most people have things they do really well and other things they’re not so good at. Here, strengths are celebrated and the not-so-good isn’t emphasized,” said Sean.

This approach allows the firm to work together as a team. “I’m planning to be here for the foreseeable future,” Sean affirmed. “In fact, I joked with Andy at a Staff Advisory Board meeting that I’d like his job some day.” It takes a special firm for a senior to feel comfortable saying that to a managing partner.
