Defunct Crazy Eddie Won’t Let Fraud Get in the Way of Continued Excellence

As far as bullshit recognitions go, this one has to be up there.

Former Crazy Eddie CFO, reprehensible villain and (full disclosure:) friend of GC Sam Antar tipped us off to an email he received on behalf of Mitchell Antar — brother of criminal mastermind Eddie Antar — who did prison time for his part in the long-running Crazy Eddie scam.

It appears even all this time after Crazy Eddie went bust in the most deliciously fraudy way possible, the company is still winning awards. Bullshit awards, but awards none the less:

Hello Mitchell,

I wanted to follow up on behalf on Catherine Weaver who has been out of the office on maternity leave and wasn't sure if she had been able to send you this announcement prior to her leave. Please do feel free to ignore this email should Ms.Weaver have had the opportunity to connect with you.

On behalf of the US Trade & Commerce Research Institute, I wanted to let you know that Crazy Eddie's Inc has been recognized as a 2014 United States Excellence Award recipient. Our panel of industry executives and consultants oversees an annual survey commissioned by the USTCRI on various industries and determines which companies meet and exceed the industry benchmarks that have been set forth. Crazy Eddie's Inc was one of those selected this year.

In typical abrasive New Yorker fashion, our pal Sam responded with:

You are an idiot. Crazy Eddie was a massive fraud.

So? Maybe the award is for excellence in fraud.
