CohnReznick Poaches Someone From PwC and Issues a Press Release, Part I

Another week, another non-Big 4 firm letting the media know that it just hired someone from the Big 4. This time, CohnReznick was the poacher, and once again, PwC was the poachee:

CohnReznick LLP, one of the leading advisory, assurance, and tax firms in the United States, today [March 3] announced that Michael Staub has joined the firm as an assurance partner in the renewable energy practice. Staub has 13 years of renewable energy industry experience and will focus on strategies supporting utilities and large strategic investors, both of which have become increasingly active in today’s renewable energy marketplace.

Before joining CohnReznick, Staub was an assurance director in the power and utility practice of a Big 4 firm. In this role, he advised audit and non-audit clients on complex accounting issues including wholesale electric generation operations, business combinations, and adoption of new accounting standards. His utilities experience extends to multiple U.S. regulatory jurisdictions where he assisted clients in the application of regulatory accounting for various state and federal rate orders. During a two-year international tour in Paris, France, Staub served global clients by evaluating their Sarbanes-Oxley compliance in adoption and post-merger environments.

“I am delighted to welcome Mike Staub to our renewable energy team,” said Anton Cohen, CohnReznick’s Renewable Energy Industry practice leader. “Mike has a unique understanding of the power industry and we are confident that he will play an integral part in our future growth initiatives and success for many years.” Cohen added, “With the pace of M&A activity picking up in the renewables sector, Mike’s expertise in this area, which includes supporting over $1.8B of power generation acquisitions (1300 MW), will be a major asset to our clients and to our firm.”

Michael Staub

No, not Mike Shaub, accounting professor at Texas A&M University. His public accounting days have been over since 1985. This is Mike Staub, who started at PwC in 2007 right after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Indiana University, according to his LinkedIn profile.

During his 12 years at P. Dubs, he spent time in the firm’s offices in Chicago, Paris, and Columbus, OH.

Staub is now based at CohnReznick’s office in NYC.
