Transferring offices just to leave soon after

Short version:  Senior on the East Coast, looking to move to the West Coast, but eager to GTFO of public.  Have been applying to positions in my city of choice, but most employers are looking for someone local.  I'm not in a position to move without a job lined up.  What's your opinion on transferring within my current firm, searching for a position once I'm there, and leaving soon after?  Maybe it's kind of a dick move, but I want to make the move one way or another, and don't know how much more of public I can honestly take.
