Sales Tax Auditing

I know most of the people are auditors for CPA firms but I was wondering what are your thoughts on sales tax auditors and do you have any experience with them.

I work for a southern state in a Midwestern office and travel around the mid-west. We usually travel two weeks at a time and stay the weekends. After the audits get assigned we make the initial contact all the way through assessment. We complete all of the reports, sampling and testing. We usually work alone. However we work a max of 8 hours a day and working over is not allowed.  Coming from working three years in public it was a nice change. It allows you to complete your job but also enjoy the city we are traveling to. I’m not sure why these types of jobs are over looked.
