Open communications, a warm family feeling and lots of opportunity for growth are hallmarks of Squire Lemkin + Company’s values. This progressive mid-market firm, located in Rockville, MD, is known for its inclusive culture and welcoming feel.

According to Senior Associate Sara Baker, who began her career at the firm as an intern, “I lucked out when I landed at a firm whose motto should be ‘Grow You.’ The firm is young and has a lot of younger staff. We always feel like we can ask questions and make suggestions. Anyone who is motivated can learn and get hands-on experience at an accelerated pace, which is different than what I hear happens at larger firms. I was even preparing financial statements by my second year at the firm. It is what I’d hoped for but didn’t think I’d find, especially in the D.C. area.”

The firm prides itself on allowing each team member to set quantifiable goals for him or herself. Each year, everyone sets their personal growth objectives and success factors and leaders set goals for the firm’s overall performance. Everyone depends on everyone else, creating a culture of interdependence, openness and mutual respect.

This philosophy extends to how staff works with its not-for-profit and closely-held business clients. “As soon as I started with the firm I learned the firm works to establish client relationships that lead to positive results for the company as well as the owners. It’s eye-opening to work that way because it requires a different kind of strategic planning. I knew I wanted to work in public accounting, but wasn’t sure it would be so exciting and challenging,” said Baker. “Squire Lemkin is a great fit for anyone who wants to feel connected to clients and team members on both a personal and professional level.”
