Masters in X “Preferred.” How important are these preferred qualifications?

Hello,

Getting curious about the job market lately and was looking through various “management-level” gigs in the private sector. All usually would have “MST preferred”… or something “preferred” on it. I only have a bachelors with over 5-6 yrs of work experience…have any of you “get in” without having the preferred qualifications? Also, another q, has anyone ever gotten a “manager” job with only CPA passed but still license pending?

Just testing the waters here if anyone has any sage advice/experience to share.
