Layoff Watch ’25: PwC Cuts Creative

PwC building exterior with scissors overlay

There’s a Mad Men joke to be made here, I’m too tired to make it.

A tipster has some information for us:

PwC just axed its entire creative team — 40 or so people. Some in communications too.

A r/PwC post from earlier today cosigns what the tipster said:

Text:

There are calls today happening – so far it’s hitting the creative department heavily (complete outsourcing) and at least some of marketing. Could expand.

OP says outsourcing but we’re thinking this reeks of AI. I mean, look what AI was able to do when I typed in “auditors at Big 4 firm PwC, happy and smiling in an office with tall windows” (“transparent” PNG added by me).

Indistinguishable from quality corporate marketing materials made in-house by trained creative pros, I tell you.

I’m jealous of her notebook paper laptop and infinite blouseblazer.

PwC engaged mega advertising agency McCann last year which we presciently assumed meant the firm would be doing a rebrand and, guess what, PwC did announce a significant rebrand earlier this year. But they wouldn’t be paying McCann to do all their in-house stuff, which is where the internal creative people come in. Or did, anyway.

If anyone has more info hit us up by text or email, tipsters are always anonymous. We’ll see if we can dig up more in the meantime.

  1. The AI image isn’t using current brand guidelines. The translucent rectangles over the logo are passé!
    But yes, layoffs today.

  2. I cannot imagine working in the “creative” department at a Big4 accounting firm.

What I mean by that is just imagine the consistent disconnect or how soul crushing it is. It’s one thing to work for the Big4 as an accountant, lawyer, or consultant because you know the deal…but imagine being someone creative working there…

One part of me says it’s terrible to lose your employment, but one part says maybe in this situation it was for the better for this group of people.

  3. Nah, there’s no way PwC would have an add featuring three people, all of which are white. They definitely would include a woman, but not two white guys.
