Escaping Audit

Happy busy season.

I'll be entering my fourth this week, and intend for it to be my last. I'm a first year senior in audit with a national firm, with previous experience at a small local firm as well. For those who have made the move from public into private, I'd like to hear what your experiences were. Did you contact (or were you contacted by) a recruiter? How much experience and at what level were you when you jumped? What size company did you end up with, and what area (internal audit, FP&A, etc.)? And of course, the obvious: what kind of raise did you score, and what do your normal hours look like? Anything you wish you had known in retrospect?

Thanks for the feedback.
