Email: FIFO or LIFO?

Had a pile of email this morning and no matter how good I think I am at getting through it, there are some days where I question my own methods. Today is one of those days.

I've been going through email using LIFOFIFO as far back as I can remember. It seems like the best way to go about it, especially if I cut out early on Friday (happens regularly) and someone's been waiting for a response for several days. And FIFOLIFO seems backwards to me anyway; if I have 100+ new emails I might read a follow-up message first and if I haven't read the first email, the second email completely lacks context.

I guess what I'm saying is — Email sucks. Even still, my method to getting through seems to work well enough. How do you guys manage it?
