(UPDATE) Going Concern March Madness 2012: Final Results and Debrief

~ Update below includes statement from Rothstein Kass Co-CEO and Co-Managing Principal, Steve Kass.

After an exhaustive tournament, and a fair amount of comments that stated the obvious (i.e. there's no such thing as a cool accounting firm), we have a repeat champion in Rothstein Kass. Despite coming in as the defending champion, RK only managed a 14 seed. Obviously not dissuaded by the slight, the firm manage to dismantle Ernst & Young, Crowe Horwath, BKD, and finally JH Cohn.

The final victory was quite a runaway and it will allow RK to reign as the ruler or 4 Becker Farm Road in Roseland, New Jersey. We're still waiting to hear from the firm for an official response to the victory, but seeing how this is a repeat title for RK, it's conceivable that everyone has been given the day off to celebrate appropriately.

So that brings us to the end of another season of Going Concern March Madness. Since it's clear that Rothstein Kass an unbreakable grip on the title of coolest firm, we'll be racking our brains for a different theme for next year's bracket. Since your creative juices have been wasted on spreadsheets for the past three months, we expect great ideas for next year's bracket. Thanks for your enthusiasm.

UDPATE: Steve Kass took a little time away from the celebration to put together a statement for us:

There are moments in life that stand apart from all other milestones for their significance. Repeating as the “Coolest Accounting Firm” in the Going Concern March Madness Tournament is one of those occasions, ranking somewhere between starting a family and getting new stationary.

Last year, Rothstein Kass took the competition by surprise, this year by storm. Having now solidified Rothstein Kass as the standard by which coolness is measured, we look forward to defending our crown in 2013. We believe that the strength of our returning class, coaching staff and recruiting efforts leave us well positioned for a three peat. It’s pretty cool to be recognized as the coolest!

Congrats, RK.
