Word on the Street Is Baker Tilly and Moss Adams Are Merging

Business handshake

What even is happening.

WSJ dropped an exclusive today:

Accounting firm Moss Adams is in advanced talks to receive private-equity investment through a merger with peer Baker Tilly, people familiar with the matter said.

The combined firm would be led by senior leadership from both organizations, one of the people said.

We’re told by a tipster that CEO emails have already gone out to staff so it seems legit. With the cat out of the bag we’ll probably get an announcement and effective date soon. Friday?

We’ve been saying for at least a year that one of these firms swollen with private equity cash needs to do an actual deal, not this buying up little firms with 25 people on staff shit. It appears Baker Tilly got that memo.

  1. Moss Adams leadership is far superior to the BT yes men brigade. BT has a knack for picking up retreads from other firms. BT has the numbers but not the leadership talent.
