(UPDATE) KPMG Has Been Without Email Most of the Day; Yes, Some People Are Freaking Out

We've confirmed with a number of people at KPMG that the firm's email service has been down pretty much all day, with the outage starting somewhere around 11 am ET. We first learned about it just about an hour ago when a tipster sent us a text saying:

No post yet about KPMG email being out nationwide since 8 am pst? Pretty ridiculous for a company of this size…some emails are getting through intermittently and mobile email is sporadic, but overall everything is down.

The firm notified employees of the outage on the internal homepage, and a solution was estimated to be reached by 2-3 pm eastern time, but it's nearly 6 now and it's our understanding that things still aren't back to normal.

A picture of an announcement posted at 4:35 pm eastern time on the firm's internal website informed employees email via iPhone and iPad was functioning but not for regular email, Blackberrys, and Android devices.

When asked how people were taking it, one source said, "My team is freaking out," while another was less concerned responding that the people panicking are "the same [ones] that freak when you explain to them how to sign off on hard copy workpapers."

Sigh. April has been tough, Klynveldians. Just go home.

UPDATE: A source tells us that the crisis ended around 9 pm ET. It was good while it lasted, slackers.

Who’s Putting Roofies in the Drinks at KPMG In-Office Get Togethers?

This post is not a joke about partners slipping Moloko into the Kool-Aid, someone is actually spiking drinks at KPMG New Zealand. The most disturbing part, putting aside the roofies which are plenty disturbing themselves, is that this likely happened on KPMG premises. For two months in a row, “grubby little cowards” have drugged drinks […]

Turns Out the Secret PCAOB Inspection List Isn’t Intangible Property for the Purposes of Wire Fraud After All

Financial Times reported today that two of the people in the middle of KPMG’s 2018 PCAOB inspection cheating scandal (extensive write-up here if you’ve been under a rock for approximately five years) are likely limping away scot-free minus any Google searches of their name being forever dominated by stories about cheating audit inspections. Two people […]
