Mr. Sikich Goes to Washington (Again)

Washington Monument and water

PE-backed Sikich (IPA #28 with $363,765,824 in revenue) has made another big move that will bolster their growing federal practice, acquiring the federal contracts of Cherry Bekaert Advisory LLC supporting the US Patent and Trademark Office. The transaction will see six people from Cherry Bekaert’s team heading to Sikich. Separately, Cherry Managing Director Aurpon Bhattacharya will be joining Sikich as a principal.

The press release conveniently lays out the big moves Sikich has made in the DC space in the last five years with a timeline and everything:

  • 2019: Sikich acquires public accounting firm Halt, Buzas & Powell
  • 2022: Sikich acquires Cotton & Company
  • 2023: Sikich acquires the federal government practice of CLA
  • 2024: Sikich acquires Saggar & Rosenberg [Ed. note: it was at this point we added a Sikich tag to the website because they’re actually doing newsworthy things these days]

The acquisition of Rockville, Maryland’s Saggar & Rosenberg was announced in August.

“Five years ago, Sikich set course to build the country’s preeminent U.S. federal government professional services practice, based here in D.C.,” said Steven Koons, principal, Sikich Federal Government Service Line Leader. “While other consulting firms exit the federal government space, Sikich is fully resourced to provide a variety of professional services to major government entities and to ensure that taxpayer money and data are properly handled. I look forward to welcoming Aurpon and the team to Sikich.”

USASpending.gov shows 71 federal awards for Sikich from January 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024.

The chart above shows Sikich’s federal awards by month and likely reflects their acquisition of CLA’s entire federal practice in announced in December 2023.

Sikich has a $250 million investment from Bain Capital to play around with so we don’t expect they’re done gobbling up other people’s established contracts in Washington.
