Meet This Firm: Squar Milner

Squar Milner

Meet This Firm is a series of video interviews featuring the best accounting employers across the United States for high performing accounting professionals and CPAs. It’s actions, not words, that reinforce the inclusive culture at Squar Milner, a Top 100 firm with offices throughout Southern California and in the Cayman Islands.

“I came to Squar Milner from a small firm in Oklahoma,” says Tax Associate Greg Lankston. “The differences are obvious in some areas, but the feel of the firm is the same. After two-and-a-half years, I can honestly say this is a warm, caring environment where all levels of staff interact with each other.”

During the interview process, Greg was attracted by the firm’s commitment to staff. He was impressed by the firm’s annual trip, which is organized strictly to foster relationships. “It’s not a business trip. There are no meetings or classes. We all just hang out and have a good time. It is a great opportunity to build rapport with partners and managers.”

The firm also encourages casual, off-site meetings with partners where informal feedback is provided. Another plus for Greg was a flexible work schedule. “We’re on Pacific time here in sunny California, but my wife’s job requires her to work on Eastern time. That meant she started at 6 AM our time and I started at 9 AM. The three-hour time difference became a big issue because we had very little time together on a daily basis. I spoke to my managing partner about it and we came up with a solution. My workday now starts at 6:30 AM.”

It surprised Greg, who never aspired to become a partner, but he is now on a partner track. “The combination of Squar Milner’s diversity and inclusiveness, the level of dedication to clients’ success and my role in it as well as the firm’s commitment to giving back to the community convinced me that this is where I want to be.”
