Ashton Lane Group has a global wealth manager client in need of a Head of Financial Control who can implement and maintain existing and new control frameworks.

Candidates should have a minimum of seven years experience and a CPA license. Knowledge of SAP is a plus.

Title: VP Head of Financial Control

Location: New York

Minimum Experience: 7 years

Description: Build and lead the financial control team within a global wealth manager.

Responsibilities: Lead a team of up to five entity controllers; Responsible for the monthly general ledger control and account reconciliation processes, ensuring that a robust control framework is embedded and maintained; Represent team at monthly Letter of Representation meetings and escalate any material issues; Review existing end to end revenue processes and implement new controls as the business expands; Support the launch of a new Trust entity and set up the control framework and associated regulatory and statutory reporting;

Qualifications: 7+ years financial control experience within financial services; Understanding of Capital Management principles; Experience of finance process design and implementation; Knowledge and experience of SAP an advantage; Bachelors’ degree or equivalent. CPA/CA preferred.

I am a tax senior who has eight busy season and a CPA license under their belt. I have always worked for the smaller firms because of all of the horror stories I have heard regarding the Big 4. Lately, I have realized that I really don’t work that much less than they do and sometimes the Big 4 can be even more flexible with schedules because of the size of the workforce. (If you are one of several, there is not a lot of room to move stuff around.)

The problem is I have never been through the recruiting process with the Big 4 and don’t know where to begin to try and move into an experienced position. I have applied on the website but have not had any responses. Any thoughts?

So the Times convinced you, eh? It’s a good paper (is that still the correct terminology?), we’ll admit but even the Gray Lady can find itself wandering into uncharted waters. ANYWAY, this problem you have – no communicado so far from the Four Horsemen; we can help.

Our first suggestion is to work with a professional recruiter that has placed others with the Big 4. A good one will be able to take one look at your résumé and flat out tell you if you’ve got what it takes to get in the door. Then it’s up to you nail the interview(s). Done and done.

The other thing you can do – if you prefer to avoid the recruiter – is to use LinkedIn to find who the experienced-hire Big 4 recruiters are in your market and contact them directly. You could get started by looking at some recent posts that have emails from recruiters that are floating around this here site but we realize that may be a longshot.

So off you go, Big 4 hopeful. We hope you hit the work-life balance jackpot.

Morgan Stanley is looking for an experienced accountant to fill at Senior Manager/VP role in New York.

Responsibilities include managing liquidity risk reporting & analysis for DSP desk and orking with the BU management on Balance Sheet forecasting.

The position requires a minimum of eight years experience in accounting, preferably in the financial services industry.

Responsibilities: Working with manager to define operating model for Financial Resources Control and execute on the agenda; Managing liquidity risk reporting & analysis for DSP desk; Working with the BU management on Balance Sheet forecasting; Assisting in balance sheet and funding analysis, including those related to the Bank initiatives, impending OTC derivatives regulation, etc.; Managing collateral process including a) Phoenix booking model, b) Work with BRM controllers on migrating control to BRM, c) working with Collateral DB IT and CPM to enhance current allocation algorithms; Managing relationships with BRM and Treasury on various initiatives including CPM model, Collateral process, enhancement to current B/S reporting etc.; Leading adoption of firmwide Phoenix initiative aimed to renovate Balance Sheet & Funding model.

Qualifications/Skills: 8-10 years of accounting/finance experience in financial services industry; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Solid accounting knowledge base is required; Equity product control experience; Experience with B/S and Funding reporting and analysis; Ability to work effectively across many functions including BU; Ability to work effectively with all levels of management; Strong oral and written communications; Candidate should have superior organizational skills with eye for details and proven ability to execute individually and as part of a team.
