I really like to keep politics and the people who practice them professionally off this site as much as possible these days but sometimes you have no choice when it intersects directly with the things we talk about. People keep sending us links to this and I’ve seen it posted on r/Deloitte so much that everyone is complaining about how much it’s being posted so let’s get it over with.
At a CNN Town Hall event last night, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made an unfortunate verbal typo about how Deloitte is poisoning rural rivers:
Text: “Rivers in rural areas were on fire because of corporations poisoning the people who lived in those areas. Poor, middle-class communities getting poisoned and dumped on by corporations like Deloitte and 3M pouring chemicals into these places.”
Quite obviously a mix-up, one that may earn her a friendly chat from Deloitte legal counsel. You might even call it malapropism given that “Deloitte” sounds enough like “DuPont” to qualify and the thought of Deloitte dumping chemicals in the water is so cartoonishly evil it’s funny to imagine.
If you want to inform yourself about rivers on fire, check out this link from Smithsonian Magazine: The Cuyahoga River Caught Fire at Least a Dozen Times, but No One Cared Until 1969.
And if you’re feeling a little doomy, here’s a good one about companies that aren’t Deloitte poisoning all of us:

So you have 70 billion in worldwide revenue and US politicians still don’t know what you are doing…
My jaw hit the table when I heard that comment! Could KPMG be responsible for climate change? Could PWC be responsible for the California fires………….those evil accounting firms…………Ha!!!!!
Can’t wait to see protestors prop up in front of Deloitte offices in NYC or other major cities protesting their dumping of chemicals in rivers.
I am half joking because I guarantee you someone will actually do that…
