Deloitte Confirms That the New Orleans Terror Attack Suspect Was an Employee of the Firm

New Orleans streets

Well this might be the worst “accountants behaving badly” item we’ve ever written about in the 16 years this website has existed. And believe you me, there have been some bad accountants over all those years.

At a little past 3 am on New Year’s Day, a truck barreled into the crowds cruising Bourbon St. in New Orleans and killed 14 people and injured at least 35; the driver died in a shootout with police. Authorities would go on to say that the suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was inspired by and may have even joined ISIS according to videos he posted to Facebook shortly before the incident and a flag hanging in the vehicle.

Some CCTV footage here along with a statement from President Biden:

As soon as the news broke the internet and media took to digging up all the info they could on Jabbar, a 42-year-old Army veteran and…Deloitte employee.

As shown above, Jabbar also worked for EY and Accenture prior to joining Deloitte.

Green Dotters on r/Deloitte say they were getting out of office messages yesterday when trying his email, as of today (January 2) the email kicks back as failed delivery with this message: “Your message couldn’t be delivered to the recipient because you don’t have permission to send to it. Ask the recipient’s email admin to add you to the accept list for the recipient.” Let’s not and say we didn’t.

His employment has been confirmed by Deloitte. A FOX Business article from earlier today includes a statement from the firm. They obviously have denounced this act as a “shameful and senseless act of violence.”

Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the Army veteran who officials say carried out the terrorist attack at a New Year’s celebration in New Orleans early Wednesday, worked with consulting firm Deloitte, earning about $10,000 a month.

In a statement, Deloitte said Jabbar had “served in a staff-level role” since being hired in 2021 and that the company was doing all it could to assist authorities.

“We are shocked to learn of reports today that the individual identified as a suspect had any association with our firm,” Deloitte said in a statement to FOX Business Wednesday evening. “The named individual served in a staff-level role since being hired in 2021.”

The firm added, “Like everyone, we are outraged by this shameful and senseless act of violence and are doing all we can to assist authorities in their investigation.”

According to BBC reporting, Jabbar has been married three times and has children from two relationships.

Court records relating to Jabbar’s most recent divorce point to financial difficulties – with his monthly expenses, including child support, exceeding his income.

Separate documents reveal that his then-wife had accused him of financial mismanagement and had obtained a temporary restraining order against him.

“Time is of the essence,” said Jabbar to his divorce attorney in a January 2022 email. “I cannot afford the house payment. It is past due in excess of $27,000 and in danger of foreclosure if we delay settling the divorce.”

The FBI is now saying they believe he acted alone after saying yesterday they believed he had help.

  1. This also might be the most tone-deaf article ever written on this site. 14 innocent victims died, and many others injured. Taking a swipe at Deloifte while so many others are mourning losses is much like drawing a card from the bottom of the deck.
