Ed. note: An earlier version of this article’s headline stated the sheriff is investigating. The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office informed us they are not investigating, only fielding calls from the firm’s anxious clients and directing them to the NC Board of Examiners.
Some potentially juicy news coming out of North Carolina today:
The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous calls related to the accounting firm of Price, Breazeale & Chastang, PA. The Sheriff’s Office has been in contact with the North Carolina Board of CPA Examiners pertaining to the business.
This business is located off of Shiloh Church Road in the Bethlehem community of Alexander County. The Sheriff’s Office has been instructed by the CPA Board for any persons currently doing business with Price, Breazeale & Chastang, PA to call (919) 733-4222.
The Sheriff’s Office says if they receive any more information related to this matter they will update the public.
Hmm. It took a couple tries to get their system to cooperate before we could find Price, Breazeale & Chastang in a North Carolina CPA firm database lookup but it’s there:

We reached out to the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office to get more info but then found this from a local television station. WSOC-TV reports that freaked out clients began reaching out to the sheriff after they couldn’t get in touch with the firm. And then there’s this today:
The sheriff told Channel 9′s Dave Faherty more than 300 people have been impacted by the closure.
Some of those folks showed up Thursday morning trying to get their tax documents back. However, the doors were locked and there was a sign on the door telling them to call the N.C. State Board of Certified Public Accountant Examiners.
Jilted clients have yet to start leaving negative Google reviews about today’s happenings. The most recent one is complaining about fees.

Clients told WSOC they dropped off their documents weeks ago but nothing has been filed. Nothing strange there, let’s be real.
“I’m very wary because we have to find somebody else. We have to get our tax papers back, so we can take them somewhere else,” said one client to WSOC. “It’s going to be tax time and we have no tax returns.”
You get an extension! You get an extension! Everyone gets an extension!
So what’s up with the note? What did they DO? Keep you posted.
Update: We’ve been able to scrape up a bit more information on this though not a lot. We’re told this is a civil matter and that at this time, the Board of Examiners is not preventing the firm from performing services for clients. From what we can gather there’s some drama happening within the firm (duh). We’ll keep digging and let you know.

Complaining about a $300 fee. Man i love those A+ clients like that.
I was 100% being petty when I posted a screenshot of that review lol
Must be a 1040 sweat shop
Refer the firm to IRS Criminal Investigations
What federal law are they breaking?
You get an extension. Most states do automatic extension. Fed can be done in minutes on turbo tax. This isn’t a big deal people
Rule #1: If you are giving accountant originals, MAKE A COPY for yourself!
Even if it’s just a quick phone pic. Don’t give them the entire shoebox!
Extension to file is not an extension to pay if you owe.
Leaving a review complying about prices is absurd. If you don’t like the price find a professional in your budget! Do you know how hard it is to get your CPA license. Do you go to your doctor and complain about the $500 bill you received for 15 minutes of service! I would have sued you for that comment!
