When accounting goes unaccounted for
London’s ExCeL Centre was packed to the rafters today with almost 4,000 would-be accountants sitting their ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) exams in Corporate Reporting, Financial Reporting and Preparing Taxation Computations. The exams are part of ACCA’s global exam series, with an estimated 73,806 students taking these exams around the world today.

Why are the proctors dressed like riot police?
On the one hand we feel bad about missing McGladrey & Pullen being on BW’s list of Best Places to Launch a Career. They land at #66 but the picture at right wasn’t used and frankly, our attention span is short.
We’re also a little disappointed that the M&Pers out there didn’t jump our shit about missing it altogether. Perfect opportunity for you call us out for being a Big 4 whore or something to that effect. Probably due to the Minnesota Nice or maybe you’re all clinically depressed because your firms are getting divorced. WTFK.
Regardless, your opportunity is gone because this is the GC “our bad” statement for leaving you out of the previous posts.
However, when we probed M&P’s profile we discovered that the five year retention rate was 18%. And M&P sponsors Natalie Gulbis for crissakes. We shouldn’t have to explain how valuable she would be in the recruiting and retention processes. We just convinced ourselves that we don’t feel bad at all.

Who knew servants of the capital markets could be so creative? Since democracy is alive and well here at GC, it’s about time to get the vote on this one going.
Here are the finalists:
A. If you think that’s bad, you should see where the prior year work papers are kept.
B. You think this is bad, the intern’s desk is inside the bathroom.
C. The audit staff showed the client who is boss by blocking entry to the restroom until the accountants provided the requested PBC’s.
D. Don’t think the .05% raise was the only benefit to becoming a senior manager.
E. In retrospect, the auditors realized that they shouldn’t have expressed so much concern over where the client was going.
F. Upon their arrival to their workstation, the audit team quickly understood the reasoning behind the under-accrual for utilities expense for the months of January through March.
