When you were little did you ever wish you could grow up to be a super cool agent? If you missed the chance to be recruited by the CIA at college we’ve got the next best thing for you: IRS Criminal Investigator.
There are 100 Special Agent positions open at the moment with a salary range of $57,188 – $102,887. Pay scale is GL 7-9, depending on your education and/or experience, it’s all explained in detail at that link. Because our audience consists primarily of millennials, many of whom are quite old now, we feel obligated to let you know that there’s a maximum age restriction of 37 due to retirement rules unless you have prior applicable federal service.
Duties are listed as the following:
- The Criminal Investigator plans and conducts investigations relative to criminal statutes of tax administration and financial crimes and other related offenses, which vary in levels or complexity.
- The work involves investigations analyzing precedent setting legal or investigative questions, complex or unusual accounting problems.
- The Criminal Investigator analyzes information obtained from diversified sources gathered over a wide section of the country; situations where the interrelationship of facts and evidence identification is difficult because of the numerous holding companies, entities, etc., involved; and cases including a mixture of legal and illegal activities; international transfers of funds; working with DOJ and IRS Foreign country attaches to obtain records; and cryptocurrency investigations.
- Performs other investigative and enforcement duties such as testifying as a Government witness, assisting the U.S. Attorney during the preparation of cases for trial, and conducting collateral inquiries.
- Obtains, evaluates, integrates, and recommends action on information items to identify large areas of
- noncompliance (e.g., major profession, occupation, industry, or wide geographic area).
