In its quest to recruit all the Millennials, PwC recently announced that it will pay $100 a month on its staff's student loans for up to 6 years. If you're wondering what the reaction has been, the firm's Vice Chairman of Client Services, Robert Gittings, told Fox Business that, “Since announcing it internally last week, the feedback has been off the hook from employees.”
Now, it should be noted that "off the hook" first appeared in the Urban Dictionary in 2002. Therefore, Mr. Gittings' use of this phrase suggests one of two things: 1) He assimilated it from PwC employees who used the expression in jest because, let's face it, at this point "off the hook" sounds like something uttered in Pride and Prejudice; 2) His use of it is ironic and he's trying to play it cool because everyone's indifferent.
Personally, I think it could go either way, so hopefully the P. Dubbers among us can clear this up.
