Role Summary
We are seeking an entrepreneurial tax director to lead, scale, and innovate our Tax Practice. This is a high-impact leadership role reporting directly to the COO. You will oversee a high-performing team covering direct/indirect tax, R&D credits, and tax consulting for venture-backed startups (Seed to Series C). Key Responsibilities
- Practice Leadership: Lead and mentor a high-performing tax consulting team, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous learning, and entrepreneurship.
- Strategic Growth: Identify opportunities to expand advisory offerings, including defining the tax services of the future through AI and emerging tech.
- Business Development: Drive revenue and wallet share by identifying cross-sell opportunities and leading proposal activities for new and existing clients.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Act as the primary advisor on complex technical matters, including corporate taxes, M&A, and R&D credits.
- Client Engagement: Serve as a trusted advisor to founders and executive teams, ensuring high client satisfaction and strategic delivery excellence.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 15 years in tax, ideally from a regional firm with a deep focus on venture-funded startup environments.
- Credentials: Active CPA is a must. An LLM or Master’s in Taxation is highly preferred.
- Technical Mastery: Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, income tax, indirect tax, R&D credits, and tax planning.
- Leadership Prowess: Proven track record of scaling teams and meeting/exceeding sales and billing targets.
- Startup DNA: An entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to navigate uncertainties and find creative solutions for fast-paced companies.
