Who will take home Best in Show? I mean Best in State? It remains to be seen.
Forbes is now accepting nominations for its first Best-in-State CPAs list (not to be confused with America’s Top 200 CPAs) which, according to them, is “a recognition designed to highlight this year’s the most exceptional, practicing CPAs throughout America—the elite of the accounting profession.”
“Our aim is to identify the CPAs who have earned the respect of their peers and have demonstrated remarkable expertise in their specializations,” wrote designated accounting correspondent Steel Rose, CPA in the list’s announcement. “We are particularly interested in CPAs who have made their mark by dedicating themselves to serving the public interest.”
Anyone who personally knows — or is aware of — a CPA worthy of the list has until June 30 to nominate them for 2024 Best in State (Forbes can’t decide if they want to hyphenate this or not so we can’t either). Apparently you can nominate yourself as well though we suspect there won’t be too many of those given most accountants’ tendency toward modesty over showboating.
The form is simple:

By the end of the form they don’t even bother pretending anyone but the individual nominating themselves will be filling this out. So maybe there will be more of those than we initially thought.

Have at it, showboaters.

First, the dog is wearing a green eyeshade — absolutely brilliant! Second, these awards could devolve into a popularity contest. There could be a lot of behind-the-scenes lobbying, assuming accountants actually give a rat’s ass about such glittering prizes.
If there was an award for best name it would go to “Steel Rose, CPA”
