Job Description:

The ideal Client Controller is an experienced Client Accounting Services (CAS) professional who combines strong technical accounting, client-facing confidence, and true operational ownership.
Our client is a highly collaborative team of 11 working within a fully remote Client Accounting and Advisory Services (CAS) firm.
They help growing service-based businesses and nonprofits ($2M–$25M revenue) stay financially sharp, organized, and strategic.
Key Responsibilities As Senior Client Controller, you will own controllership delivery across a dedicated portfolio of multi-client CAS engagements:

1. Client Ownership

  • Lead recurring financial review calls, walk clients through monthly financial statements, explain variances, and translate complex numbers into actionable business insights.
  • Prepare clear financial packages and participate in executive, board, finance committee, or audit meetings across commercial and nonprofit clients.
  • Collaborate directly with business owners, Executive Directors, finance staff, leadership teams, and board members as a true partner.

2. Technical Controllership

  • Review monthly financial statements, reconciliations, workpapers, and supporting schedules for accuracy, completeness, and audit readiness.
  • Oversee accrual accounting, class/location/project tracking, deferred revenue recognition, intercompany transactions, and fund/grant accounting where applicable.
  • Lead cash flow conversations, maintain rolling forecast tools, explain cash movement, and surface practical concerns for client or CFO attention.

3. CFO Support & Advisory Collaboration

  • Partner closely with fractional CFOs/Advisors on budgeting, forecasting, FP&A, financial modeling, process design, and strategic decision support.
  • Identify meaningful trends and provide “light advisory” insights without needing to operate as the full-time CFO.

4. Workflow & Systems Leadership

  • Assign, monitor, and review work executed by staff through Karbon. Keep deliverables moving smoothly and proactively resolve bottlenecks.
  • Support onboarding and process optimization across client tech stacks (QBO, BILL, Ramp, Fathom, etc.).

Candidate Qualifications
POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Significant, proven experience operating in a Client Accounting Services (CAS), fractional accounting, or outsourced accounting firm environment managing multiple client accounts simultaneously.
  • Hands-on experience working with nonprofit clients—including familiarity with fund accounting, grant tracking/reporting, net asset classifications, and supporting finance committees or boards.
  • Expert-level QuickBooks Online (QBO) proficiency combined with deep accrual accounting and month-end close expertise.
  • Proven ability to lead live financial review calls and comfortably communicate with business owners, CEOs, and Executive Directors.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. (W-2) with reliable availability during Pacific Standard Time (PST) business hours.

Tech Stack Proficiency:

  • QuickBooks Online (QBO), Excel / Google Sheets modeling.
  • Karbon (or similar practice management platforms).
  • Strong pluses: BILL, Ramp, Expensify, Fathom, Syft, or Reach Reporting.
