GT is one of two firms (that we explicitly know of) that currently requires audit professionals to pass the CPA exam in order to be promoted. If this particular tidbit is true, then it would be a reversal from Grant Thornton's new policy that was put in place a little over a year ago. It doesn't seem logical that a firm would change its mind on a promotion policy in such a short time frame, but then again, we shouldn't forget what the Purple Rose of Chicago is capable of.
