To Whom It May Going Concern: Let Me Call My Buddy Who Is an Expert on Cool Stories

This is the latest, if much overdue, edition of our infrequent feature, To Whom It May Going Concern. Here we share some of the more, shall we say, interesting messages that come across the wire that just don't fit anywhere else. If you get the urge to tell us what you think about this here website, email [email protected] with "To Whom It May Going Concern" in the subject line, @ us on Twitter or just yell really loud and maybe we'll hear you. Just a reminder that all messages are considered on the record unless specified otherwise.

It's been a long time since we've done a To Whom It May Going Concern, mostly because we haven't been getting strange messages like we used to. Why? Who knows. We changed up the tip box a little, some of you just bitch in comments, and still some of you use Open Items for its intended purpose. Still, here are a couple of the odd things we've seen lately.

Just received word from the partners at EY that our advisory compensation discussions will happen between August 18th and 28th

FANTASTIC! You know where this would be great? In the COMMENT SECTION on the EY compensation post. ICYMI, we stuck all the comp threads in the right sidebar of the site for easy access (tee hee, I said "easy access"). So go forth, young advisory grasshopper, and informate!

LOL another firm won't share pre-comp discussion meeting slides because they "tend to be shared outside of the firm" nicely done GC, nicely done.

This is LOL, thanks for sharing. You know my response?

What firm is this? How was this information communicated? Did you at least take selfies with said slides so we get them anyway? The questions here are numerous. The answers? Not so much. Tipster, you're gonna have to give us more than that.

This next one isn't exactly a tip. Actually, it was a blind copy from the individual who wrote the farewell email to which it is linked. We would have published it but… well… first of all, the subject is My Last Will and Testament… and second, it's worse than that rambling, teary-eyed KPMG guy who wrote his farewell like he was breaking up with his high school sweetheart. No, dude. Just no.

…well not quite that morbid but it feels like that anyways.

As some of you may already know, I’ve decided to end my long career at Deloitte after almost 14 wonderful years. This marks the end to the longest ‘relationship’ I’ve ever managed to maintain in my entire life (yes, longer than my own marriage J). So while I’m a tad sad to be leaving, I can only look back to those years with sheer fondness and realize it is here that I learned the chops to become a professional, where I developed my first professional network, work friendships, mentors, mentees, advisors. There is a certain type of wealth I’ve accumulated of knowledge, experiences and relationships.

It’s only fair that I give back a little…

[here's where he lists everyone from the janitorial staff to the recruiter who gave him a Deloitte pen 14 years ago. Alright, just kidding, but it's almost that bad]

My Past Engagement Team Members

I leave you all the receipts I’ve yet to expense from group dinners/drinks. I leave you all the fancy decks and frameworks that we just HAVE to use in our next project or proposal. 1s on your scorecards. I also leave you psychological evaluations for all the difficult clients we’ve worked for so you can rest assured it’s not you, its them…well mostly them 😉 (my own evaluation has heavy redactions so may not be of use to you). I leave you the address of the actual guy who wrote the Basel regulation so you can curse/thank him as you wish.

I also leave you my personal gratitude for supporting me through all the fire-drills, working through late hours and weekends and sometimes PTOs and producing high quality deliverables every time,. I also leave an acknowledgement that I’m not perfect, professionally and personally and prone to mistakes and indeed have development areas. But if I ever failed to own up to them I assure you it would have been inadvertent. I leave you my confidence and belief that you all have the brightest futures ahead of you and in spite of my impending departure, this firm is the best place to start, develop and finish your career. I also leave you the assurance that our personal / professional paths will cross and I intend to say hello and shake your hand with the same enthusiasm and vigor.

…and that’s all folks

Hey guy, you owe us 5 minutes of our life we shall never get back.

ALRIGHT, back to the tip box.

i heard a story about an EY intern…can I remain anonymous? I dont have absolute verification…heard it 3 degrees of separation from the source.

First, you are always anonymous. Why do you guys even ask this question? In the five years we have been doing this, when have we ever said "Boy, y'all, have we got a tip for you! It comes courtesy Ryan Chodeburger™ in the Rawlins, WY office who spilled everything to us, using his work email at that"?

Well, we heard the story and boy is it a doozy. But we are unable to confirm. So, on that note, if anyone in the EY Charlotte office wants to spill (you know exactly which intern we are talking about), hit us up. Oh, and you will remain anonymous.

Check it out – there' a CPA Auditor contestant on American Ninja Warrior this season:  Rich Thompson.  Not only is he a CPA, he was also a MLB professional baseball player!  They just featured him on Monday's Miami finals episode.  He finished and is moving on the the national finals in LV!

We have no idea what American Ninja Warrior is (should we?) but Rich Thompson's name sounded familiar. Oh right, we know that guy! Uh, good for him?

So, that's what we've got. If you have a gripe, or a random stream of consciousness, or need to vent about how I favor cat photos over dog photos (I am working on that, you guys), holla! This is your website, people, we're just the schmucks tasked with keeping order.
