Promotion Watch ’13: Here’s the Ernst & Young Americas Partner Class for 2013

Welcome back, capital market servants. Hopefully you achieved some combination of suntan/burn, hangover, and meat sweats this past weekend.

Speaking of achievement! Last week while we were all distracted by Memorial Weekend daydreams, Ernst & Young announced their 2013 Partner, Principal, Executive Director, and Director (aka "PPEDD") class for the Americas (this includes North America, South America, and Israel). We were notified by a number of people and two of our tipsters were kind enough to pass along E&Y's communication that includes a message from Steve Howe, the Americas Managing Partner, as well as the names, practices, and locations of the new PPEDDs. You can see the document in its entirety on the next page, but here's a rundown of some of the key information:
  • There are 240 new partners and principals, 148 executive directors, and 27 new directors in the Class of '13. This includes seven EY Global Services directors that are in the Americas. Over half — I counted 150-ish partners and principals, 80+ EDs, and 21 directors (feel free to audit) — are located in the U.S.
  • Mr. Howe speaks of a "rigorous selection process" that evaluates "technical acumen, the ability to deliver exceptional client service, and a commitment to building relationships and developing people." We'd love to see an itemized list of the selection process, especially if there is a talent competition.
  • Homebodies with partner aspirations should take note of Howe's explicit message about "mobility." He states that forty-two percent of the new PPEDD class has transferred at some point in their careers and that it "is a necessity as our clients seek to grow throughout the world."

Jump to the next page for Howe's full message and scan the list for your friends and enemies. Congratulations to all the new PPEDDs at Ernst & Young!
