Deloitte Doesn’t Want You Wasting Billable Hours Searching for Adulterer Profiles

It was bound to happen at some point. I thought we'd be able to take the high road on this Ashley Madison data dump mess, but NOOOOOOO, here we are digging around in people's private lives. It is the internet, after all.

Really all we have for you is an anonymous tipster who dropped us an unconfirmed rumor:

The Green Dot has restricted people from checking out the searchable Ashley Madison hack site, ashley.cynic.al.  Trying to go there gets the following message:

Access to this web page is restricted at this time.

You have been directed to this page because the web site you are trying to access is on a list of sites that are blocked.

And of course, the tipster speculates about the motive:

What is the greatest concern? (a) Partners looking for affairs will be found (b) Deloitte IT professionals looking for affairs will be found (c) Regular employees will spend time checking on their spouses instead of being chargeable

Accountants marry accountants as we all know and so it stands to reason that there are a few uncomfortable situations going on out there in CPA land. If you're in a relationship and something's not right, I don't blame you for checking. It's just likely that Deloitte would like you to do it on your own time.

And if you know co-workers that philander on the reg, punching in emails all afternoon could waste some valuable time. But, honestly, do you want to know? People are making the case for averting your eyes and that makes perfect sense to me. People do what they do and sometimes they do people who they aren't married to. It doesn't matter if they're overly discreet or stupid and use a work email address; either way, ugh.

On the other hand! The thought of Deloitte brass sweating bullets over this and frantically dialing the Deloitte Internet Police (I like thinking they go by "DIP") to order the site blocked makes me smile. The other part of this tip — true or not — that I did enjoy is that I got to email a Deloitte spokesperson about it. He hasn't responded.

Anyway, the point is, waste your billable hours on Going Concern instead. Oh, if it's too late for you, then read this next. Enjoy feeling awkward.
