Fired Deloitte Switzerland Partner Owes Deloitte Some Money After Defeat In Court

David Joseph might be regretting taking Deloitte to court over his firing.

The Financial Times reported yesterday:

A high-profile banking consultant sacked by Deloitte over alleged bullying and large expenses claims has been ordered to pay £125,000 to the Big Four accounting firm.

David Joseph, who was among the highest fee-earners at Deloitte Switzerland, was told to pay the firm’s legal costs after he failed to successfully challenge his dismissal in the London High Court. The court rejected his attempt to force Deloitte to convene a meeting of its partners that could overturn the decision. He could subsequently file a separate claim challenging the merits of his dismissal.

According to FT, Deloitte spent £300,000 defending itself against Joseph in court, an amount that Judge Philippa Whipple called “rather excessive,” and said Joseph should pay Deloitte an interim costs award of £125,000.

Whether or not you think shelling out £300,000 in court costs is excessive, you have to admit Deloitte didn’t lack confidence that it was going to defeat Joseph’s ass in court.
