Another EY Employee In the U.S. Has Come Down with Coronavirus

According to an internal email sent yesterday to EY employees in the Washington, DC area, there’s been another confirmed case of COVID-19 among the firm’s ranks, this time in Virginia.

A tipster passed along the email to us, which was sent by Richard Jeanneret, Americas vice chair and US-East region managing partner, and Kevin Virostek, Greater Washington managing partner. Here’s what it said:

To all Greater Washington EY people,

In efforts to continue our commitment to transparency, please be aware there has been a confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19) with an EY person who works at the Tysons office. We believe this individual has not been in any EY office after being exposed to the virus. We are in the process of reaching out to the list of EY people who have been in contact with this individual and will provide them with guidance as required by CDC guidelines. The Greater Washington offices have been cleaned nightly, as well as underwent a number of deep cleanings.

The individual is currently receiving the appropriate medical assistance. As you can imagine, this is a sensitive and stressful time for them and their family. We are in communication with them and will provide support through EY Assist.

Your safety and well-being, and the well-being of those around you, remain our primary concern. Based on the escalation of the pandemic and ensuing government guidance issuing restrictions to close public gathering spaces, per Kelly Grier’s email this morning, we will close our offices across the US this week and move to a full work from home approach beginning Tuesday, March 17. This includes those of you working at a client location.

All US EY offices will be accessible through 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18 to allow you to gather any necessary files or belongings. Please review Kelly’s in-depth message for more information.

Please continue to adhere to best practice guidance issued by the WHO to reduce public exposure to and transmission of illness as well as refer to the COVID-19 guidance page on the Global Security Portal for our guidance, including general and client FAQs, travel advice and other useful information.

We will continue to monitor the situation and advise you of any significant developments.

You can read Kelly Grier’s firmwide e-mail announcing mandatory work from home for all U.S. EYers here.

This is the third EY employee globally that we know of who has tested positive for COVID-19. The other two were in:

A person in EY’s office in Brisbane, Australia, who recently had symptoms of coronavirus, tested negative.
