INSIDE Public Accounting just came out with its annual ranking of the top 100 (plus 101-400) accounting firms in the U.S. based on net revenues, and the largest firms are right where they were last year. No, PwC didn’t leapfrog Deloitte for the top spot. Yes, KPMG is still fourth. And no, BDO USA didn’t move out of seventh, despite buying what seems like a bazillion smaller firms recently.
In fact, the top 12 in 2020 is exactly the same as the top 12 in 2019.
Some of the biggest movers in spots 13 to 25 include Plante Moran, CohnReznick, Eide Bailly, Armanino, and The Siegfried Group, while firms that lost ground include BKD, Marcum, Wipfli, Carr, Riggs & Ingram, and Withum.
Now, Baker Tilly is in the 11th spot for the second straight year. But rumor has it that BT is going to announce later this week that it has found a willing dance partner in Irvine, CA-based Squar Milner, which is ranked 46th. [CONFIRMED]
Baker Tilly had net revenues of $789.6 million, according to IPA, while Squar Milner had $126.4 million in revenues. That combination would boost Baker Tilly’s revenue to a little more than $916 million, which would likely knock CBIZ & MHM out of 10th in IPA’s 2021 ranking. We were told the BT/SM deal would be made public on Aug. 13.
